Snow at Corin Forest, Canberra

This morning, Key and I went for a drive to see the snow at Corin Forest. Canberra (and indeed a lot of the South East coast of Australia) has had some very cold weather this past week so I was not surprised when I heard that it had been snowing at Corin Forest.

Despite living in Canberra which is relatively close to the snowfields, I’ve never seen much snow myself. When we glimpsed the first white patches on our drive up, I’m not ashamed to say that I clapped my hands together and squealed ‘snow’.

There definitely wasn’t enough for any type of snow sports where we went, but plenty enough to stomp around in and there was lots of snowman action as well.

The roads had a lot of traffic on them, so there was no snow on the road and our non-4WD drive car had no problems. It was wet though and there were a lot of other cars and pedestrians about, so we definitely drove to the conditions.

Kangaroo tracks in the snow.

Hi! I’m Taryn. The Wooden Spoons is a food blog and collection of wooden spoons, recipes and stories. I’m a Canberra fan-girl with a passion for all things food. I love South East Asian food, fusion food done well and slow cooked anything. I don’t get quinoa, have a mild phobia of milk touching my skin and custard from a package freaks me out. Thanks for joining me on my cooking and food adventures.

    Dear Taryn,

I love the cold and have fond memories of so many ski trips down to Snowy Mountains. Your pics of this winter wonderland are awesome.

Thanks Carloline! It was my boyfriend that realised what they were, I would have walked straight through them in my ‘snow excitement’ hehe
