Photo an Hour a Day

Something different today. A few weeks back, I set myself the challenge to photo each hour in a day. Ok, it wasn’t really that challenging, but it was a good exercise to help me practice my photography skills using my camera phone. Ever since I’ve been using the DSLR, I’ve now realised how hard it is to actually take a good photo using my camera phone. I like the idea of having multiple ways of taking photos and now that I have instagram, I want to practice using my camera phone more often for on-the-go pics.

Disclaimers go here: these are all camera phone photos and I swear I don’t spend all of my days like this. This day just happened to be a day where Key had the car, so I spent most of the day at home. I also purposefully chose a day that would be more interesting (my sister coming over) and not as boring as a lot of my days have been lately (applying for jobs…all day long) I didn’t come up with this idea. Just google ‘photo an hour’ and you’ll see that plenty have done this before me.

Anyways, here is my photo an hour.

photo an hour

6:00 – 7:00 am – Our morning walk. Look at that sunrise.

7am

7:00 – 8:00 am – Coffee with BMO!

8am

8:00 – 9:00 am – The flowers that I bought the week before are on their last legs.

9am

9:00 – 10:00 am – Hoping that the sun will come back out so I can photograph a recipe.

10am

10:00 – 11:00 am – Making a cheesecake / making a mess.

12pm

11:00 – 12:00 pm – Blogging time! Writing up a recipe, drafting a post and submitting my pics from that day’s post to foodgawker and tastespotting. Yes, my desk is also my dressing table. Is that weird?

11am

12:00 – 1:00 pm – Editing photos with a peppermint tea. Do you recognise this pic? It was for my pumpkin soup recipe which went up a few weeks back.

1pm

1:00 – 2:00 pm – Lunch time. This was a ham and kale omelette. It tasted delicious, but it proves that I am no good at taking photos of food with a camera phone. Must practice! Perhaps I need to do these photo an hour posts more often :)

2pm

2:00 – 3:00 pm – Tilly time.

3pm

3:00 – 4:00 pm – Taking the washing off the line.

4pm

4:00 – 5:00 pm – My sissa arrived. I think her wine choice was quite aptly named.

5pm

5:00 – 6:00 pm – My sister and I tucked into this cheese platter. This is not an every day occurrence I assure you. Spot my confit fennel…it’s delicious as part of a cheese platter.

6pm

6:00 – 7:00 pm – Making a salad while Key cooks steak.

7pm

7:00 – 8:00 pm – Key’s steak with red wine sauce, simple salad and sweet potato chips. It tasted a lot better than my photograph makes it look.

8pm

8:00 – 9:00 pm – Sissa left with a full belly so now it is TV time! This is a daily occurrence :)

9pm

9:00 – 10:00 pm – Bed time, but kindle time first. I’m currently reading the Postman by David Brin.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post. What did I learn from doing the photo an hour challenge? I learnt that I need to turn the damn phone on its side sometimes and embrace the landscape photo as opposed to taking mostly portrait pics haha.

Hi! I’m Taryn. The Wooden Spoons is a food blog and collection of wooden spoons, recipes and stories. I’m a Canberra fan-girl with a passion for all things food. I love South East Asian food, fusion food done well and slow cooked anything. I don’t get quinoa, have a mild phobia of milk touching my skin and custard from a package freaks me out. Thanks for joining me on my cooking and food adventures.

Hi Kate, you should definitely go ahead and do it. Sometimes the most lovely photos are of the simplest things like steam rising from a coffee cup or condensation on a window. I’m sure there is plenty of beauty in your life :)

Congratulations on achieving the goal. I began the year taking a photo a day but unfortunately life got in the way.

Thanks Janelle. Life has a way of doing that xx
